Integrity Through Generations

At birth, all calves are weighed and tagged with NILS and Stud tags.

Our calves are weaned at five months of age when they are weighed and put onto green pasture to maintain good growth and health. They are weighed again at 400 days and 600 days. Testicle measurements are also taken at these times.

At 600 days, all bulls are DNA tested, parent certified, and have sperm morphology testing. They are also ultrasound scanned for marbling, fat cover and eye muscle area.

Structural assessments are regularly undertaken throughout the development of the bull. Any bulls presenting with structural unsoundness are culled.

When a bull leaves Sheron Farm, he is leaving the security of his mob, and he will arrive at unfamiliar territory at your property. If you can’t put him into a small bull mob straight away, put him in with a steer or a cow as a companion to settle him in.

A young bull can move in with older bulls and settle in well. However, as he is the youngest he will get the last of the feed available because of the pecking order. The paddock needs to be reasonably large so that your young bull can get away from the others and find adequate feed.

Young bulls are still growing fast and need sufficient good quality feed to maintain their growth.
